Mail Sending Options

In order to send e-mail notifications, SupportTrio will have to know what methods of sending e-mail your server supports. The default method, PHP's mail() function, uses the default Mail Transfer Agent that your server administrator has set up. However, some servers do not support this function. In these cases you may need to use sendmail, or an external SMTP server.

If you're not sure which methods will work, you can test each one by selecting its option and then clicking the "Test Sending" button at the bottom of the configuration page. If none of the options work and you are not aware of having an SMTP account, you'll need to contact your web host or server admin to explore the options that may be available to you.

If you do have an SMTP account, but SupportTrio does not seem to be able to use it, then it is most likely that you have entered one of the configuration values incorrectly. SMTP errors occur when the SupportTrio mailing script's connection to the SMTP server is rejected by that server. The most common reason for this is an incorrect login and password. To ensure you have the correct information, test it out in a standard e-mail client such as Outlook or Thunderbird.

Occasionally, restrictive firewall settings will prevent the scripts from accessing an SMTP server. In this case, the server administrator will have to adjust the firewall settings to allow this communication.
