If the software is installed on your own web server, and you are experiencing problems with slow performance, there could be any number of reasons for this. The important thing to remember is that our software will function as best it can within the environment in which it is installed. In general, performance is determined by the size of your MySQL database in combination with your server's hardware, software, configuration, and available resources.
If following the instructions in this article and optimizing your MySQL server does not resolve the performance issue you are experiencing, you may need to consider adding more RAM to your web server and then allocating more of it to your MySQL installation, or upgrading to a different server plan.
Sometimes checking your web server's error logs will show you error messages that may offer a better explanation for why your server is timing out or running slowly. If you're having trouble narrowing down the specific actions that are causing a performance bottleneck on your server, you may want to ask your server administrator to enable slow query logging in MySQL for further information, or ask them to reduce other processes that could be running on the server as well and sharing resources.
If you feel that the performance you are experiencing is still unusually poor given the environment and configuration of your server, and you have followed the above instructions without a significant improvement, then there may be an unusual situation that we can certainly inviestigate for you.
